Unleash the Archers - Apex

Unleash the Archer’s fourth effort, Apex is a concoction of heavy metal, melodic and power metal styles that fuse together to create a collection of super melodic, yet gut-punchingly heavy songs. Opening track “Awakening” as well as the following track, “Shadow Guide” separate this band from their peers within their respective genres. These two tracks take female-lead melodic vocals to an elevated place, as Brittney Slayes’ very aggressive vocal give the opening tracks a sense of grit that others may fall short on.

Underneath those vocals lay intricate guitar tracks, that are broken up between hard, progressive stops that are reminiscent of Dave Mustaine’s sense of rhythm at times. The guitar work is especially prominent on this album. The thrashing rhythms help to drive everything forward, while the leads mimic the vocal harmonies, creating a nice fusion of melodic and heavy metal styles. Other stand-out tracks include “Earth and Ashes” which shakes things up with acoustic instrumentation, “The Matriarch” and the title track as well. Apex is available June2, 2017 via Napalm Records.
